Background: It is crucial for the nurses to promote their own health in order to help individuals in health promoting activities. Objectives: This study was carried out to determine the effectiveness of a health promotion course that was run by case study method. Methods: This was a semi-experimental study including pre test-post test design with a single group. The sample was composed of 55 students who were studying in a Nursing Degree Program. It was carried out as a 14-week educational program within the scope of Health Promotion course which was given during spring term of the first year. Data were collected by using personal information form and healthy lifestyle behaviors scale. Data were assessed by using numbers, percentages and paired sample t test. Results: It was determined that total mean score of Healthy Lifestyle Behaviors Scale II was 120.61 ± 16.02 at last test. In the comparison for health promotion course, mean total score of healthy lifestyle behaviors scale and mean scores of health responsibility and interpersonal relationships were found to be higher compared to the scores before the education (p < .05). Conclusion: Healthy lifestyle behaviors scores of nursing students were at a moderate level and the courses given within the curriculum positively affected health promoting behaviors of the students. According to this, it should be provided to make the courses which aim generating healthy lifestyle behaviors, more common in all departments and classes within the universities.
