Covid-19 Pandemi Sürecinde Depresyon, Anksiyete ve Stres ile Başa Çıkma Tutumlarının Sosyal Medya Bağımlılığıyla İlişkisi

Abstract:

COVID-19 küresel sağlık krizinde bilgi boşluğu bireylerin korku düzeyini arttırmış, belirsizlik stres, anksiyete ve depresyon gibi psikolojik bozukluklara neden olmuştur. Pandemi sürecinde kolay erişilmesi, kitlesel kullanıma ve ihtiyaç duyulan etkileşime olanak tanıması sosyal medya kullanımını arttırmıştır. Bu çalışmanın amacı COVID-19 pandemi sürecinde zamanının çoğunu evde geçiren gençlerin sosyal medya bağımlılığı ile depresyon, anksiyete ve stresle ile başa çıkma tutumları arasındaki ilişkinin incelenmesidir. Çalışmada aynı zamanda başa çıkma tutumunun sosyal medya bağımlılığına etkisi değerlendirilmektedir. Araştırmanın evrenini Gaziantep Üniversitesi öğrencileri, örneklemini ise, amaçlı örneklem tekniği kullanılarak belirlenen 338 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Araştırma nicel araştırma deseninde tasarlanmış ve çevrimiçi anket yöntemi ile veriler toplanmıştır. Verilerin analizinde T-Testi, tek yönlü ANOVA, ilişkiyi ortaya koymada Pearson korelasyon ve bağımlı değişken üzerinde diğer değişkenlerini etkisini açıklayan çoklu regresyon analizi kullanılmıştır. Analiz sonucunda COVID-19 pandemi sürecinde sosyal medya bağımlılığının stres ve anksiyete ile pozitif yönde orta düzeyde, işlevsel başa çıkma ile pozitif yönde orta düzeyde ilişkili olduğu bulunmuştur. Araştırmada aynı zamanda stres ve anksiyete gibi olumsuz duygu durumunun ve işlevsel olmayan başa çıkmanın sosyal medya bağımlılığını pozitif ve anlamlı şekilde yordadığı sonucu elde edilmiştir. COVID-19 pandemi sürecinde gençlerin içinde bulundukları zor durumla başa çıkmada sosyal medyadan faydalandığı ve bunun da bağımlılık düzeyinin artmasına yol açabileceği görülmektedir.

The information gap experienced in Covıd-19 global health crisis has increased individuals’ level of fear and uncertainty caused psychological disorders like stress, anxiety and depression. In this period, social media use has increased. The aim of this study is to reveal the relationship between young individuals who spend most of their time at home during COVID-19, social media addiction and their attitudes towards coping with depression, anxiety and stress. At the same time the effect of coping attitudes on social media addiction is evaluated. The population of the study consist of Gaziantep University students, and the sample of the study 338 students chosen with purposeful sampling method. The research was designed in the quantitative research model. Data were collected through online questionnaires, to analyze data T-Test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation and multiple regression analysis are used. The result of analysis showed that there is positively midlevel correlation between social media addiction during COVID-19 and stress, anxiety, and non-functional coping. The research also revealed that stress, anxiety, and non-functional coping predicted social media addiction positively midlevel. It is observed that young individuals exploited social media in order to cope with the difficult emotional situation during COVID-19 and this increased the level of addiction.
