Abstract:

This research was carried out to determine the current situation and problem areas in terms of improving cow milk production and marketing opportunities in Villages in Muş Plain. The material of the study consisted of 138 cattle farms in 28 villages of the central district of Muş. Due to the fact that there is no current and accurate information about the presence of cattle in the farms, random sampling has been carried out, including an equal number of farms from each village in order to identify the dairy farms. Shares of farm size groups, 1-9 heads, (%21.0), 10-29 heads (%42.8) and 30 heads and above (%36.2). Average daily milk yield per cow for the same farm size groups, respectively 6.72±0.90 l., 6.83±0.53 l. and 7.48±0.60 l calculated. The average lactation time is again for the same farm size groups, respectively 6.33±0.33 months, 5.97±0.23 months and 6.64 ± 0.54 months. Although the average amount of raw milk sold by farms increases depending on the size group, this value is calculated as 67.58±9.67 lt. And the average liter sales price is 131.07±3.09 kurus. The ratio of the farms having problems in the marketing of the produced raw milk was determined as 91.3%. As a result, In order to increase the economic and organic milk production potential in the Muş plain, it is recommended to develop and encourage breeders’ associations for product marketing.
