Edebiyat fakültesi öğrencilerinden gerek entelektüel gelişimleri açıdan içsel bir faktör olarak, gerekse okudukları bölümün bir gereği olarak belirli düzeyde okuma alışkanlığına sahip olmaları beklenir. Söz konusu olan yabancı dil edebiyat bölümü öğrencileri ise, aynı zamanda yabancı dilde kitap ve metin türlerinin de okunması gerekliliği dil bölümü öğrencilerinden beklentinin bir kat daha arttığı anlamına gelmektedir. Bu görüşlerden yola çıkarak bu çalışmada Alman, Fransız ve İngiliz dili ve edebiyatı bölümü son sınıf öğrencilerinden oluşan 107 katılımcıya gerek ana dillerinde gerekse öğrenimini aldıkları yabancı dildeki okuma alışkanlıkları hakkında fikir edinebilmek amacıyla 12 sorudan oluşan bir anket uygulaması yapılmıştır. Betimleyici tarama modelinin temel alındığı çalışmada sorular nitel ve nicel türde hazırlanmıştır. Anketlerden elde edilen veriler, öğrencilerin hem ana dilde hem de öğrenimini gördükleri yabancı dilde çok okur ve orta seviyede okur kategorisine girdiğini göstermektedir. Fakat ana dilde ve yabancı dilde okunan metin türleri birbirinden farklılık göstermektedir. Öğrenciler ana dilinde daha çok basılı yayın olarak roman okuma eğiliminde iken, yabancı dilde okudukları farklı metin türlerini dijital ortamda okumayı tercih etmektedir. Yabancı dilde okuma yapılmasının en büyük sebeplerinden biri de yabancı dil bilgisini geliştirmektir. Bunun yanında edebiyat bölümü öğrencilerini okumaya en çok teşvik edenin derslerine giren öğretim elemanları olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Anketten elde edilen en önemli sonuçlardan biri de öğrencilerin okuyacakları metni kendilerinin seçmek istemesidir. Ders icabı zorla metin okumaktan zevk almadığını ve bunu gereksiz bulduğunu belirten öğrenci sayısı toplam katılımcıların yarısına yakındır.
Students from the Faculty of Literature are expected to have a certain level of reading habit as an internal factor in terms of their intellectual development, and, if necessary, as a cause of the section they are reading. If the students of the foreign language literature department are concerned, the need to read the books and text types in the foreign language also means that the expectations from the students of the language department are increasing once more. Based on these opinions, a survey app consisted of 12 questions for 107 students from the German, French and English language and literature departments to be able to get an idea of the reading habits in the foreign language they learn in their native or native languages. In the study on which the imaging scan model is based, the qualitative and quantitative types of questions are prepared. The data obtained from the surveys show that students read a lot both in their mother tongue and in the foreign language they see their learning and entered the middle-level readers category. But the types of text read in the mother tongue and foreign language differ from each other. While students tend to read novels as more printed publications in their native language, they prefer to read the different types of text they read in a foreign language in a digital environment. One of the greatest reasons for reading in a foreign language is to improve the knowledge of a foreign language. In addition, the literary department has been found to be the teachers who are the most encouraging students to read. One of the most important results obtained from the survey is that students want to choose the text they want to read. The number of students who indicate that the course response is not forced to enjoy reading the text and that they find it unnecessary is close to half of the total participants.
Students of Faculty of Letters are expected to have a certain level of reading habits both as an internal factor in intellectual development, and as a requirement of their department. Expectations from students in foreign language departments about the necessity of reading foreign language books and text types have increased recently. This descriptive survey study aimed to investigate the native and foreign language reading habits of 107 senior students in Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University, Faculty of Arts and Letters, German, French and English Literature Departments.. To this aim, a survey of 12 qualitative and quantitative questions was developed and administered to the participants prepared. Findigs showed that students fell into the category of advanced and moderate level readers in both native and foreign language. However, text types read in native and foreign language differed. Whereas students tended to read native language novels more in published form, they prefered to read different foreign language different text types in digital media. One of the most significant reasons reported for reading in a foreign language was to develop foreign language knowledge. It was also found that the most encouraging factor for students in literature departments was the lecturers. One of the most important results of the survey is that students wantd to choose the reading text themselves. Almost half the participants stated that they did not enjoy reading compulsory texts as a requirement of courses and found it unnecessary.
