Mevlevîliğin XVIII. yüzyılın sonlarından itibaren devletle çok daha iç içe olduğu görülmektedir. Osmanlı Sultanı III. Selim ile II. Mahmud dönemi başta olmak üzere Osmanlı Tarihinin son dönemi, Mevlevîliğin en fazla itibar gördüğü dönemdir. Bu dönem padişahların bizzat Mevlevihaneleri ziyaret edip, ayinlerinde bulunmaları, halkın ilgisinin de bu tarikata yönelmesine sebep olmuştur. Ancak Mevlevîliğin fazlaca devlete yakın olması, gelecek için bu tarikatın gelişmesine değil, tarikatın, devletin çökmesi ile önemini kaybetmesine sebep olmuştur. Bu makalede, Sultan II. Abdülhamid döneminden Osmanlı Devletinin yıkılışına kadarki Mevlevîlik ile ilgili gelişmeler ele alınmıştır
