Abstract:

With the influence of Islam in our country, the great crowds of the people have approached the month of Ramadan with a special interest and have performed the worship that they have to do in this month in a celebration atmosphere. Many of the traditions lived during this month have gone beyond being a religious requirement and have become part of the people’s culture. As a sacred time, Ramadan has thus accumulated serious cultural elements and these elements have been transmitted from generation to generation. In this month, the prayer to be done has led to fasting, and some rituals related to eating and drinking have also been revealed. The study observed the work streets of Van in the month of Ramadan as a sacred time in the time range between iftar and sahur. The aim of the study is to reveal the effects of holy times reflected on street culture. On the other hand, the traditions lived in the month of Ramadan are compared to the forms of application in recent history. These practices, lived with the consciousness of unity and the perfect harmony in every stage of society, are derived from the concepts of "tradition", "city" and "modern". In this context, data were collected through the observation method from the central neighborhoods of Van. The data collected was achieved by studying the folklore science as required.
