Pursuant to a common view, when determining the legal families in the context of comparative law, the decisive factors are; historical background, dominant legal reasoning method, significant legal concepts, sources of law and ideology. In this study, basic concepts of German law will be summarized from the perspective of private law. In coherence with the comparative law method; historical background, legal method, sources of law and general structure of its civil code will be attached utmost importance. Additionally its significant institutions will be mentioned as needed. Furthermore, considering the law is a subsystem of the social order and a social phenomenon, how socio-economic changes and the ideology which has been shaped in the course of these changes have affected the law and jurisprudence will be explained. Apart from these, finally some substantial features of German law such as federalism and also legal education together with legal professions in Germany will be touched upon
