Abstract:

The Tortum Hydroelectric Power Plant, which began its construction in 1952 and entered service in May 1960, was a project that the Erzurumlists have long been expecting to implement. Despite this long waiting after the project’s offer, the construction and service stage was also longer than planned and could be achieved as a result of intense efforts. This article discussed the construction and service process of the Tortum Hydroelectric Power Plant, which has been shown as a precise solution to the electricity issue of Erzurum during the period until the 1960s and the work on the resolution of the electricity problem of Erzurum. After the approval of the Council of Ministers in 1951, the plant was planned to be completed in 1956 for construction and machinery and equipment, but due to the faults it was only possible to be completed in 1960. In May 1960, the power plant began to produce electricity in the city. Until 1972, the plant remaining in the operation of the Erzurum Municipality, was transferred to the TEK, which was affiliated with the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources in the same year.
