The objective of the present study is to assess the classification of “good job” – “bad job” adopted by the labor market segmentation theory within the domain of the construction industry and to reveal existence of the theory based on a case study conducted in Denizli City, Turkey. Our study utilized both qualitative and quantitative research methods. Within the scope of the qualitative research, an in-depth interview with 16 employees from two different construction companies in Denizli City. Within the quantitative research scope, micro data set from the 2016 Household Labor Survey conducted by the Turkish Statistical Institute was utilized. According to the quantitative findings of the study, 95.9% of the employees in the Turkish construction industry are employed in bad jobs. Qualitative research findings of this study suggest that good job is the one offering dignity and high rewards, not requiring hard physical burden, providing an environment including social activities, self-development opportunities, satisfying social needs, honoring their employees, sharing responsibilities, and creating sense of involvement. On the other hand, bad job is pictured with characteristics of low-paid, high physical burden, illegal employment, mobbing and frequent overtime, poor employment conditions, and blurred job descriptions; and with a work environment in which employees face difficulties to express their issues and occupational diseases.
