Abstract:

Vocabulary, influences both reading comprehension and writing skills. In this respect, researchers and theorists agreed that there was a relationship between reading and writing skills, but this relationship is presented as cognitively irrelevant. According to some researchers, the presence of individuals who can read, but cannot write, or who can write but cannot read indicates the separability of reading and writing skills. However, the development of vocabulary for the development of both skills is an undeniable fact. In this direction, it is expected that a research that simultaneously examines the relationships between vocabulary, reading comprehension and writing skills will fill the gap in the literature. The aim of this study is to examine the relationships between primary school fourth grade students' vocabulary, reading comprehension and writing skills. Additionally, it was aimed to examine the extent to which vocabulary and reading comprehension skills predict writing skills; reading comprehension and writing skills predict vocabulary; and vocabulary and writing skills predict reading comprehension skills. This research was designed in the correlational research model which was carried out with a sample of 175 fourth grade primary school students in Afyonkarahisar. As data collection instruments, Vocabulary Test, Reading Comprehension Test developed, and 6+1 Analytical Writing and Evaluation Scale developed were utilized.
