Abstract:

This study has been prepared in order to reveal the daily lives of women who are attached to the wage labour process by going to houses for cleaning, their use of the money they earn, their consumption habits and the changes that working makes in their lives. In the study, face-to-face interviews were conducted with ten women who go to clean houses in Ataşehir, Istanbul, using the in-depth interview technique, and during the interviews, a question form that basically included forty-six questions was utilised. In the interviews which were evaluated under five main categories, demographic data regarding the women, their family lives, their earnings and consumption habits, the way they use the social media, and the changes that work created in their lives were focused on. In the study, it was concluded that the middle and upper class families in the houses they work contribute to the adaptation process to the city life and consumption habits of women working in paid housework.
