Abstract:

The aim of this study is to adapt the Basic Psychological Needs in Physical Education Scale (BPN-PE) scale developed by Vlachopoulos, Katartzi and Kontou (2011) and to study their psychometric characteristics. The original scale is English and consists of a total of 12 expressions with three factors. The expression translated into Turkish has been completed with the opinions of English language experts to ensure the correspondence of the expressions translated into Turkish, the integrity of meaning and the validity of language. After the Turkish form of the scale was applied to 405 high school and 412 high school students, the scale’s structure validity factor analysis was made and the scale translated into Turkish as a result of the analysis was agreed that the scale will also consist of 12 expressions. To determine the internal consistency of the scale, each factor of the scale (for the middle school is 0.67 to 0.75 and for the high school is 0.66 to 0.76) and the Cronbach Alpha reliability ratings for the entire scale are sufficient. According to the results of the analyses, the three-factor structure of the Basic Psychological Needs Scale in Body Education can be interpreted as reliable and validly adapted to the Turkish culture for both high school and high school students.
