Abstract:

Seydişehir district was settled on the foothills of the Küpe Mountains near Lake Suğla within the boundaries of Konya Province, approximately 100 km away from the city center. Located around the district are Akören in the east, Akseki in the west, Bozkır, Yalıhöyük and Ahırlı in the south. The rich cultural variety around Seydişehir, which has been home to a lot of cultures stemming from its location, has been attractive for the researchers as well. The first comprehensive archaeological studies in the region started in the second half of the 20th century. During this period, excavations in settlements such as Suberde and Erbaba Höyük revealed important findings that these settlements were established on the lakeside in the Neolithic Period. Then, in 2002, DSI works to build irrigation canal were carried out at a location close to Lake Suğla. In this canal excavation, with the unearthed archaeological artifacts in the area called Gökhöyük Bağları Höyük, resque excavations were carried out by the Konya Museum Directorate. From the finds unearthed in settlements of Erbaba Höyük, Suberde Höyük and Gökhöyük Bağları Höyük, which date back the Neolithic Period, important information about the Neolithic Period tool industry and pottery production techniques was obtained. Findings in the new settlements identified within the scope of the Prehistoric Period Survey of Lake Suğla Vicinity in 2020 revealed the first findings of an intense Prehistoric settlement in the region. The artifacts gathered from the surface in these centers suggest that these settlements date Late Neolithic, Early Chalcolithic Period. In this study, a preliminary assessment is made over the findings obtained from new settlements found in Seydişehir and its surrounding within the scope of the Survey of Prehistoric Period of Lake Suğla Vicinity in 2020.
