Abstract:

In recent years, the prominent concept of social municipality has made social services an important area of responsibility in local governments. In this study, the diversity of social services provided in the municipalities that make up an important foot of social service offer and the level of social service knowledge and awareness, in Istanbul, the 29 district municipality has been attempted to understand. In the work structured with a qualified design, profound conversations were conducted with the staff responsible in the social services units of the municipalities. The findings obtained at the end of the study indicate that in most municipalities, social services are established in the form of social aid and there are problems with the concept and awareness of social services. In addition, the number of social services experts/social workers in the municipalities that provide social services as a professional group that will provide this service has become another important conclusion.
