Abstract:

Whether the goals and values determined in the curriculum are compatible with the textbooks and whether these learning outcomes and values are given properly are important in reaching the goals. The aim of the research is to investigate whether the values specified in the 2018 Social Studies Curriculum correspond to the 4th grade Social Studies textbook. In the research, document analysis method which is one of the qualitative research methods was used. The data consists of 4th grade Social Studies textbooks taught in the 2019 - 2020 academic year. Content analysis was applied during the examination of the 4th grade Social Studies textbook. The researcher analyzed the data using the NVivo 11 program. The accuracy and reliability of the codes and themes created were increased by getting expert opinion. As a result of the research; expressing 1023 values content were determined in the content of the book. Of these value expressions, 518 are found in texts, 321 in pictures/images, 130 in assessment - evaluation sections, and 54 in activities. The most recurrent values in the content of the book was the values of "responsibility, self - control, sensitivity (environment - cultural heritage)". The least recurrent values in the content of the book was the values of ‘‘justice, equality, honesty’’. Within the framework of findings and results, it can be ensured that value expressions take place more in assessment - evaluation sections and activities.
