Abstract:

Global warming and climate change are constantly destroying nature and causing permanent damage to the living environment in the world. Many countries are trying to move to environmentally friendly economic development, i.e. sustainable development, to prevent this environmental destruction and destruction. Successful implementation of sustainable development can be achieved by increasing accountability, transparency and efficiency in public administration and by implementing good governance principles in solving economic, social and environmental problems. The Ombudsman’s work encourages public administrations to resolve economic, social and environmental issues in a more transparent, accountable, fair and citizen-oriented way and to make a significant contribution to sustainable development through these activities. This study has studied the role of the Ombudsman institutions in the sustainable development process in the world and in Turkey. At the end of the study, the Public Audit Institution in our country has been given a limited role in the sustainable development process and the conclusion has been that there are some corporate/building deficiencies in the general management of this process. For this reason, in the study, the Public Audit Authority has been proposed to make more contribution to the sustainable development process and to complete the existing corporate/building deficiencies.
