Abstract:

Abstract:

The study analyzed the determinants of fish consumption, which has proven positive effects on human health, for the Turkish households. For this purpose, the data of 11,818 households included in the 2018 household budget survey of the Turkish Statistical Bureau in the Micro Data Set were estimated with Logit and Multinomial Logit (MNL) models. The logit model and the factors that influence the households’ decisions whether to consume or not fish are determined. According to the model forecast results, the type of household population, income level, household population size, household population average age, household residence educational level and civic state variables have been found to be effective in the decision to consume fish. With the MNL model, the factors that affect the consumption of fish in the households that consume fish have been analyzed. According to the model forecast results, all the variables included in the model have been found to have a positive impact on the possibility that their households’ fish spending is 60 TL and above, while the possibility that they are below 20 TL has also been negative.

Abstract:

In the study the determinants of fish consumption that has proven positive effects are analysed for Turkish households. For this purpose, the micro data sets of 2018 Household Budget Survey of Turkish Statistical Institute that encompass 11.818 households are utilised and Logit and Multinomial Logit (MNL) models are estimated. With the Logit model, the factors having effects on fish consumption decision of households are determined. household type, income level, household size, household average age, education level and the marital status of the household head have positive effects on fish consumption. With the MNL model, on the other hand, the factors having effects on fish consumption decision among fish consuming households are determined. According to the model estimation results, it is found that all the variables included in the model have positive effects on household fish consumption over 60 TL and negative effects on the probability to consume less than 20 TL.
