Bu çalışma, 19. yüzyıl ortalarında 42 haneli bir köy olan Gümele’nin sosyal ve ekonomik durumunu ele almaktadır. Çalışmada 1831 Tarihli Gediz Nüfus Defteri, 1835 tarihli Gediz Kazası Vergi Defteri ve 1844/1845 tarihli Gediz Temettuat Defteri ana kaynak olarak kullanılmıştır. Defterlerdeki veriler, burada yaşayan insanların temel geçim kaynaklarının tarım ve hayvancılık olduğunu ortaya koymaktadır. Tarımsal faaliyet olarak, buğday ve arpa ziraatının ön plana çıktığını söylemek mümkündür. Fakat bunların yanı sıra; mısır, darı, afyon, soğan, kelem ve bostan ziraatı yapılan diğer ürünler arasında yer almaktadır. Hayvancılık faaliyeti olarak ise, büyükbaş ve küçükbaş hayvancılığın öne çıktığı görülmektedir. Büyükbaş hayvanlar içerisinde inek, küçükbaş hayvanlar içerisinde ise keçi ekonomik olarak önem arz etmektedir. Köyün ekonomik yapısına bağlı olarak mesleklerin de genellikle tarım ve hayvancılık üzerine şekillendiğini görmekteyiz. Nüfus defterlerindeki verilere göre, köyde yaşayanların büyük bir çoğunluğunun orta yaş grubu olduğunu söyleyebiliriz. Bu çalışmayla Batı Anadolu’da Kütahya’nın Gediz ilçesine bağlı küçük bir köy olan Gümele’den yola çıkarak, o dönemin köy hayatı ortaya konulmaya çalışılacaktır.
This study deals with the social and economic situation of Gümele, a 42-number village in the middle of the 19th century. The study used the 1831 Gediz Population Register, 1835 Gediz Accident Tax Register and 1844/1845 Gediz Temettuat Register as the main source. The data in the books reveal that the main resource of living here is agriculture and livestock. As an agricultural activity, it is possible to say that the grain and grain harvest is on the forefront. But in addition to these, it is among the other products made of eggs, thorns, opiums, flour, cabbage and cabbage ziraat. As an animal activity, it is seen that big and small animals are in advance. Cows in large animals, cows in small animals, cows in large animals, cows in large animals, cows in large animals, cows in large animals, cows in large animals. Depending on the economic structure of the village, we see that the professions are often formed on agriculture and livestock. According to the data in the population records, we can say that the vast majority of the people living in the village are middle-age groups. With this work, starting from Gümele, a small village connected to the Gediz district of Kütahya in Western Anadolu, the village life of that time will be attempted to be revealed.
