Abstract:

In this study, it was aimed to examine the relationship between university students' decision-making styles and their level of adaptation to university life. Relational survey model, one of the quantitative research methods, was used in the research. The participants of the research consist of a total of 371 students, 257 women and 114 men, who continue their education at different universities in Turkey in the 2021-2022 academic year. The data of the study were collected through the "Melbourne Decision-Making Styles Scale", "University Adjustment Scale" and "Personal Information Form". Pearson correlation analysis, unrelated samples t-test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and multiple linear regression analysis were used in the analysis of the data. As a result of the analysis, it was determined that there were significant relationships between students' decision-making styles and their level of adaptation to university life. According to the regression analysis, it was observed that decision-making self-esteem significantly predicted personal adjustment, while careful decision-making style significantly predicted academic and social adjustment. In addition, in the comparison made according to demographic variables; women's panic decision-making style scores were significantly higher than men's; on the other hand, it was determined that the class variable did not make a significant difference in terms of students' decision-making styles and their level of adaptation to university life. When all the findings obtained from the study are evaluated together, it can be stated that decision-making styles play an important role in students' adaptation to university life.
