Bir Netflix yapımı olan ve 2020’de yayınlanan “Sosyal İkilem” (The Social Dilemma) adlı belgesel, küresel dünyanın en önemli sorunlarından biri olarak dijital teknolojiler ve özellikle de sosyal medyanın, birey ve toplumlar açısından neden olduğu sorunları çarpıcı ve oldukça ikna edici bir biçimde ortaya koyması bakımından dikkatleri üzerine çekmiştir. Belgesel, bu anlamda ortaya çıkan etik açıkları tartışmaya açtığı gerekçesiyle takdir toplamıştır. Bununla birlikte, her medya içeriğinin bir gerçekliğin inşası süreci olduğu bilinci ile yapılacak daha derin bir okuma, söz konusu belgeselin, açıkça söylediklerinin ötesinde ve her izleyicinin rahatlıkla anladığı ve gördüklerinin ötesinde başka bir şeyler de söylediğini ortaya koyacaktır. Bu çalışmada, bu yaklaşımla, sözü edilen belgesel niteliksel içerik çözümlemesi yöntemi ile irdelenmiştir. Belgesele bu bağlamda bakıldığında, liberal kapitalist ideoloji temelinden ve bu ideolojinin siyasal, ekonomik ve toplumsal değerleri içerisinden bir anlatı ortaya koyduğu, eleştiriyor gibi gözüktüğü pratiklerin temelinde yer alan kapitalist kaygılara yönelik olarak bir sistem eleştirisi ortaya koymadığı, varolan yapı ile ilgili etik sorunlardan bahsederken, ciddi bir etik tartışma zemini oluşturamadığı tespit edilmiştir.
The documentary "The Social Dilemma", a Netflix production and published in 2020, reveals in a striking and very convincing way the problems caused by digital technologies, and especially social media, for individuals and societies, as one of the most important problems of the global world. It has drawn attention for its placement. The documentary was appreciated by the relevant circles for opening the ethical gaps in this sense to discussion. However, with the awareness that every media content is a process of construction of reality, a deeper reading will reveal that the documentary in question says something beyond what the narrator clearly says and beyond what every viewer can easily understand and see. In this study, with this approach, the aforementioned documentary is examined with the qualitative content analysis method. When we look at the documentary in this context, we can talk about the ethical problems related to the existing structure, where it does not present a system critique for the capitalist concerns that lie at the base of the liberal capitalist ideology and the practices that this ideology seems to criticize, revealing a narrative from within its political, economic and social values. It was determined that it could not create an ethical discussion ground.
