Abstract:

It is important that children's magazines, which are included in the periodicals of children's literature, be handled in accordance with the cognitive and affective skills of children. In this context, a number of criteria have been established for the preparation of children's magazines. In this direction, it is aimed to examine Öncü Çocuk Magazine, published by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE), according to the content and formal features that should be found in children's magazines. In this direction, the document analysis method was used in the research. The study material of the research consists of 12 issues belonging to 2018, 2019, and 2020 in Öncü Children's Magazine. Journal issues; while examining in terms of size (size), paper, page layout, letters, pictures, cover and volume in the formal context, theme, subject, heroes, plan, style, and language were examined in terms of expression. The content analysis method was used in the data analysis of the research. According to the results obtained from the research, it has been determined that the numbers examined are generally suitable for children in terms of size, type of paper used, page layout, line spacing, font size of letters, the proportion of images, cover selection, spelling and punctuation, preferred text type, themes covered, subject, and language expression. Some suggestions were made in line with the results obtained.
