Abstract This text presents part of the work developed by the researcher Ana Beatriz Cerisara at the Center for Studies and Research in Early Childhood Education at the Federal University of Santa Catarina - NUPEIN-UFSC. Initially, we allude to the history of NUPEIN, tocommemorate its 30 years of activities in defense of the education of young children, recognizing the children as historical subjects of rights and desires. Afterwards, we present some works that were supervised by Professor Cerisara, highlighting the way in which researches privileged looking at children, in the sense of listening to and understanding them. This text ends by highlighting the issues presented in the work of this researcher and which continue to mobilize us in the defense of Early Childhood Education and the rights of children.
