Abstract:

City rights are the rights that people demand to live in a way that is suitable for human dignity at the urban level. The protection of urban rights is primarily local governments, but must be carried out by private and public organizations and individuals. But here, according to the philosophy of existence, one of the basic functions of the city councils, which are the protection of the rights of the city, should not be forgotten. City councils are local governance mechanisms that strengthen local participation and nursing awareness with the function of protecting the city’s rights and law. The study and the relationship between the urban rights and the city councils has been attempted to be attracted by the opinions of the council representatives who are members of the Turkish City Council Platform by the survey method. In the study, quantum research method and imaging method were used. As a result, it has been concluded that the councils have important mechanisms in the protection of urban rights but the problems that councils encounter in participating processes weaken this mechanism.
