Abstract:

Offering a refreshing perspective on the global dynamics of social segregation and the capitalist ideology that dominates the Western world, the film Parasite (2019) presents powerful narratives of modern South Korean society. The film captures the audience with its cinematographic socio-spatial narrative, which is the scope of the study. The research question is “What are the references to the social segregation elements of the windows used as an interface in cinematographic space relationality, narrative/discourse, and the ways of looking and seeing?” The study aims to analyze how social segregation is constructed by focusing on the analysis of the interface (windows) in the outdoor-indoor, indoor-outdoor relationality, the narrative/discourse and the ways of looking and seeing within the same frame. In the findings obtained from the study, which was handled with interaction content analysis in the qualitative research method, it was concluded that the windows used as interfaces strengthen the perception/meaning relationship in positive (upper-status) spaces and that the narratives in the same spaces build their "own reality".
