Abstract:

Social media applications are increasingly used in various fields such as education and marketing in social life. Labor unions also use social media to communicate with their members and make public announcements. It is stated that labor unions are in a union crisis due to the loss of members. For this reason, it is stated that the unions should both regain their old members and reach new members from the segments that are not willing to become members. It is argued that it would be beneficial for trade unions to use social media for this purpose. Within the scope of the research, first of all, the YouTube channels of the labor unions affiliated to the 3 confederations in our country were examined. Later, the videos on the YouTube channel of Petrol İş union were analyzed in terms of topics and time. The videos on the YouTube channel are classified as public information, forming public opinion, support, rights, promotion of activities, strike, celebration, speech, combating violence against women, organization, promotion and protest. It has been determined that the videos on the channel are mostly intended for existing members. It is seen that the videos have diversified over time.
