Harflere ve sayılara anlam yüklemek ilkçağdan günümüze kadar süregelen bir anlayıştır. Dilin gündelik hayattaki somut yansıması olarak kabul edilen harfler ile ölçme ve tartma gibi işlemlerin birimsel ifadesi olan sayılara gerek Doğu gerekse de Batı toplumlarında farklı manalar yüklenmiştir. Evrenin yaratılışını sayılarla ifade etmeye çalışan Pisagor, harfler ve sayılar arasındaki ilişkiyi açıklayabilmek amacıyla Kalde alfabesini oluşturmuştur. Bu yönüyle de günümüzde çoğunlukla astrologların istifade ettiği ve evrendeki gizli yasa ve ilkeleri keşfetmeyi gaye edinen Numeroloji’nin kurucusu sayılır. Harf ve sayı gizemciliğinin Doğu’daki en büyük temsilciliğini ise Hurufiler üstlenmiştir. Ebced hesabı yöntemiyle harflere sayısal değerler yükleyen Hurufiler, kutsal metinlerde harf ve kelimelerin sayı ve sıra bakımından şifreler barındırdığını iddia etmişlerdir. İslam kültüründe geniş bir yer edinen ebced, Osmanlı şair ve yazarlarının da özellikle tarih düşürme hususunda istifade ettikleri bir sistemdir. Osmanlı kültür hayatının ilk dönemlerinde kendine mezar taşlarında yer bulan tarih düşürme sanatı, daha sonra cami inşâsından sultanın tahta çıkışına, edebi bir eserin itmamından kazanılmış bir zaferin kronolojik ifasına kadar geniş bir zemine yayılma fırsatı bulmuştur. Klasik edebiyatta ise divan şairleri ve tezkireciler, tarih düşürme sanatını en çok kullanan sanat erbabı arasındadır. Bilhassa klasik şairlerin biyografik bilgilerine yer veren tezkireciler için tarih düşürmeler bu malzemenin olmazsa olmazıdır. Neticede biyografik malzemenin en önemli unsurlarından biri de kişinin hayatındaki önemli olayların tarihleridir. Klasik edebiyatta yazılan ilk tezkireden itibaren tezkireciler şairlerin hayatlarıyla ilgili düşürülen tarihlere sıkça yer vermiş kimi zamanda kendileri tarih düşürmüşlerdir. XIX. yüzyıl tezkirelerinden olan ve Mehmed Tevfik Efendi tarafından kaleme alınmış olan Mecmû’atü’t-terâcim tezkiresinde de başta vefatları olmak üzere şairlerle ilgili birçok önemli hususa düşülen tarihlere yer verilmiştir. Bu çalışmada, Mehmed Tevfik Efendi’nin tezkiresinde yer verdiği tarihlere ve tarihlerin türlerine yer verilmiştir.
To put meaning on letters and numbers is a continuous understanding from the beginning to the present day. The language is considered to be a concrete reflection of the daily life with the letters and the unitary expression of processes such as measurement and discourse, and the numbers are charged with different meanings in the Eastern and Western societies. Pisagor, trying to express the creation of the universe in numbers, created the Kalde alphabet in order to explain the relationship between letters and numbers. In this regard, he is also the founder of Numerology today, which is largely used by astrologists and is the founder of discovering the secret laws and principles in the universe. The greatest representation of the letter and number mystery in the East was taken over by the Hurufs. The Hurufs, who put numerical values on the letters by the Ebced account method, claimed that the letters and words in the sacred texts contained codes in terms of number and order. Ebced, which has a wide place in Islamic culture, is a system that the Ottoman poets and writers also use especially in terms of history. In the early periods of the Ottoman cultural life, the art of the historical degradation found itself in the tomb stones, then found the opportunity to spread from the building of the mosque to the exit of the throne of the sultan, from the push of a literary work to the chronological expression of a victory gained. In classical literature, divan poets and textors are among the art herbs that most use the art of historical downturn. For the classical poet’s biographical information, the history of the writers is not unlikely if this material does not exist. Finally, one of the most important elements of the biographical material is the history of important events in a person's life. Since the first thesis written in classical literature, the thesis writers have frequently put down the dates relating to the lives of the poets; sometimes they have put down history themselves. The XIX. In the book of Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), which is from the century’s texture, and which was taken into mind by Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), many of the important issues related to the poets, including their deaths, have been recorded. In this study, the dates and types of dates included in the thesis of Mehmed Tevfik Efendi.
