Orta Doğu, medeniyetin doğduğu ve buna bağlı olarak da devlet kavramının farklı etnik, kültürel ve dinî olarak şekillendiği coğrafyaların en önemli merkezi konumundadır. XX. yüzyılın ilk çeyreğinden itibaren İslam Dünyası’nda özellikle de Orta Doğu’da ulus devletlerin kurulmasıyla birlikte dinî toplumsal bir tasavvur ve aidiyet duygusu olan ümmet yerine, ulusal bölgesel kimlikler ikame edilerek bu kimlikler ulus devlet aracılığıyla pekiştirilmiştir. Otoriter ve kişiselleşmiş iktidarlara sahip Orta Doğu’daki ulus devletler küreselleşmeyle birlikte yaygın egemenlik anlayışının karşısında bir tehdit olarak görülmesiyle birlikte etnik ve mezhebi uyanışların canlandırılmasıyla çözülmeye zorlanmaktadır. Eski dünya düzeni ulus devletler üzerinden imparatorlukları parçalayarak imparatorlukların sonunu hazırlarken yenidünya düzeni aynı şekilde yine ulus devletlerin parçalanması için yeni ulus devletçiklerin üretilmesi noktasında politikalara sahne olmaktadır. Orta Doğu’da siyasi dengelerin değişimi adına 11 Eylül olayı önemli bir köşe taşıdır. Bu tarihten sonra ABD’nin Afganistan’ı ve Irak’ı işgali, Lübnan’da yaşanan çatışmalar, Arap Baharı, Suriye’de yaşanan iç çatışmalar, Türkiye’nin güneydoğusunda Kürt sorunuyla ilgili yaşanan gelişmeler ulus devletlerin yaşadığı sorunların açık bir şekilde görülmesini sağlamıştır. Orta Doğu’da yaşan gelişmeleri değişimin getirdiği güç boşluğunu doldurma ya da bölgede yaşanan dönüşüm sürecinin fırsatlarını değerlendirme gibi açıklamalar getirirken pratikte yaşanan, farklı ülkeler tarafından bölgeye yapılan ziyaretler ve bu ziyaretlerde ortaya çıkan çekişmeler paralel şekilde stratejik bir güç mücadelesi alanın oluştuğuna işaret etmektedir. Tüm bu gelişmeler ve stratejik arka planda yaşanan çekişmelerle birlikte Arap Baharı sonrasında yeniden şekillenmeye başlayan ulus devletlerin yapısı hem içerden hem de dışardan uluslararası güç odaklarının çatışan politikalarına sahne olmaktadır. Bu minvalde bu yazının temel argümanı Orta Doğu’daki ulus devletlerde ciddi sorunların yaşandığı ve bunların kısa vadede ortadan kalkmayacağıdır. Çalışmada literatür taramasına dayalı nitel araştırma yöntemi kullanılmıştır.
