Abstract:

In the Anadolu University Open Education System (OES), there are courses designated as common across multiple programs. Courses such as Foreign Language, Turkish Language, etc., originally designed for one program, are also offered in other programs. To determine the allocation of these courses to specific programs based on defined criteria, a study on course affiliation has been conducted starting from the 2021-2022 academic year. The objective of this research is to examine the affiliation of courses to programs and to develop a registration support system that provides pre-registration assistance to learners. The registration support system aims to present information about the course weight of a program and identify courses that align with the interests of learners across various programs. The research employs a qualitative research design, specifically a case study, and data are analyzed using document analysis. Data for the study were obtained by examining courses and their affiliations in 65 programs where the course affiliation application is implemented in the Anadolu University OES. Among the total of 1,133 courses, 252 are taught in more than one program, while 881 courses are exclusive to a single program. The course affiliation similarity rate for courses in associate degree programs is 48.64%, whereas in undergraduate programs, it is 56.25%. Across all 65 programs, this rate is 52.17%. Given that nearly one in two courses has an affiliation in another program and considering the absence of elective course practices, it is anticipated that the proposed registration support system will significantly facilitate the registration processes for learners.
