Günümüzde ekonomik yapısı ne olursa olsun gelişmiş ya da gelişmekte olan ülkelerin tamamı için işsizlik önemli problemdir. Literatür incelendiğinde işsizliğe yönelik pek çok tanımın yapılmış olduğu görülmektedir. Bu tanımlardan bir tanesi işsizliği gelir yoksulluğu olarak tanımlamaktadır. Herhangi bir ekonomik toplum içinde, çalışmak istemesine rağmen iş bulamayan bireyler işsiz olarak tanımlanır. İşsizliğin nedenleri ve ortadan kaldırılması, gerek araştırmacılar gerekse otoriteler için önemli bir çalışma konusudur. Bu çalışmada Türkiye İş Kurumu (İŞKUR) aylık istatistik bültenin de yer alan işsizlik süresi verileri kullanılarak değerlendirilmiştir. İşsizlik süresi bireyleri ekonomik durumun yanında psikolojik olarak ta etkileyen bir olgudur. İşsizlik süresine yönelik yapılan çalışmaların genel olarak bireylerin psikolojik yönü ile ilgilenmesi yapılan çalışmanın önemini ortaya koymaktadır. Yapılan çalışma da işsizlik süresi “ 1yıldan az” ve “1 yıldan çok” işsiz kalma süresi olarak sınıflandırılmıştır. Çalışmaya katılan 15 yaş üstü erkek bireylerin %87,2 sinin, kadın bireylerin ise %80,7 sinin 1 yıldan daha az işsizlik yaşadığı sonucu elde edilmiştir.
Unless of the economic structure of today, unemployment is a major problem for all developed or developing countries. The study of literature shows that many definitions of unemployment are made. One of these definitions defines unemployment as income poverty. In any economic society, individuals who do not find a job even though they want to work are defined as unemployed. The causes and elimination of unemployment are an important subject of study for the authorities, whether researchers need. This study was evaluated by using the unemployment period data included in the monthly statistical bulletin of the Turkish Labour Agency (İŞKUR). Unemployment period is a phenomenon that psychologically affects individuals alongside the economic situation. Study on the unemployment period shows the importance of the study in general concerned with the psychological aspect of individuals. The study also classified the unemployment period as "less than 1 year" and "more than 1 year" unemployment period. The study found that 87.2 percent of men over the age of 15 and 80.7 percent of women experienced less than one year of unemployment.
