Gerek Kıbrıs’ta gerekse dünyada içecek tüketiminin, insan hayatında önemli bir yer tuttuğu yadsınamaz bir gerçektir. Yiyeceklerin ayrılmaz bir parçası konumunda bulunan içecekler, aynı zamanda yemeklerden sonra da tüketilmektedir. Her ne kadar zorunluluk gibi gözükse de gerek yiyecekler gerekse içecekler, içinde bulunulan toplum ve o topluma ait olan kültür tarafından şekillendirilmektedir. Her toplum farklı nedenlerle bazı içecekleri kendilerine adapte ederken, bazı içecekleri de zaman içinde unutmuştur. 1571 yılında adanın Türkler tarafından fethedilmesiyle birlikte Anadolu’nun değişik bölgelerinden adaya iskân edilen insanlar, diğer kültürel öğeleriyle birlikte yeme-içme kültürlerini de birlikte getirmişler, aynı zamanda burada bulunan çeşitli malzemelerle farklı yiyecekler ve içecekler de icat etmişlerdir. Bununla birlikte günümüzde adada bulunan Rum toplumuyla da kültürel etkileşim sayesinde Türklere ait olan bazı içecekler Rumlar tarafından tüketilirken, Rum toplumuna has bazı içecekler de Türkler tarafından kabul görülmüştür. Çalışmada Kıbrıs Türklerinin hayatında önemli bir işleve sahip olan içecekler ortaya konularak, bunların kullanımı ile sosyal işlevleri değerlendirilmiştir.
It is a remarkable fact that the consumption of beverage in the world has an important place in human life. Drinks that are in the position of an integral part of food are also consumed after meals. Although it appears to be a necessity, food and beverage are formed by the society and the culture that belongs to that society. While each community adapts some beverages to them for different reasons, some beverages are also forgotten over time. In 1571, with the conquest of the island by the Turks, the people who were expelled to the island from the various regions of Anadolu, brought together their food and drinking cultures with other cultural elements, and also invented different foods and drinks with the various materials found here. However, thanks to cultural interaction with the Rom community on the island today, some of the beverages belonging to the Turks are consumed by the Romans, while some of the beverages belonging to the Rom community are also accepted by the Turks. In the study, the beverages that have an important role in the life of the Cypriot Turks have been shown, their use and social functions have been evaluated.
