Yoksulluk konusu farklı bilimlerin temel inceleme nesnesi olarak uzun yıllar tartışılan önemli sorunsal alanlardan biridir. Yoksulluk, ülkenin gelişmişlik düzeyine, kişi başına düşen milli gelire, bireylerin sosyal ve fiziki açıdan yaşamsal fırsatlara erişimine, işgücü piyasasının istihdam hacmi ve dağılımına, ülke içindeki siyasi ve ekonomik kararların bireylerin yaşamsal memnuniyetlerini ne şekilde etkilediğine yönelik bir dizi parametreye göre şekillendiği için tek bir tanım üzerinde uzlaşmak olanaksız gözükmektedir. O yüzden yoksulluğu tanımlarken sadece ekonomik ve siyasi süreçle bağlantılı olmanın ötesinde sosyal, kültürel süreçleri ve bireylerin beklentilerini de içeren geniş bir yelpaze içinde değerlendirmek gerekir. Kentsel yaşam içinde barınma, sosyal güvenlik, eğitimde fırsat eşitliği, meslek edinme, hukuksal hakların bireye sağladığı yasal zemin, sosyal ve siyasal alanda karar mekanizmalarına katılım gibi konular kentsel yoksulluğu belirleyen temel süreçlerdir. Kentleşmenin temel dinamikleri içinde baktığımızda bireyler, yoksulluğu farklı şekillerde deneyimlemektedir. Bu çalışma, Denizli kent merkezinde yaşayan 19-24 yaş aralığındaki gençlerin yoksulluğu hangi açılardan deneyimlediğini onların bakış açılarından yola çıkarak ortaya koymayı hedeflemiştir. Bu çerçevede gençlerin demografik özellikleri, ikamet ettikleri coğrafi konum, eğitim ve kültürel birikimleri gibi farklılıklardan yola çıkarak yoksulluğu nasıl tanımladıkları, yaşadıkları temel güçlüklerin neler olduğu sorununa onların söylemlerinden yola çıkarak ulaşılmaya çalışılmıştır. Araştırma bulgularına göre gençlerin yoksulluk kapsamındaderin ve temel sorunları, eğitim ve meslek edinme imkânlarının sınırlılıkları, sosyal güvenlik açısından yaşanılan bölgenin taşıdığı riskler, kültürel etkinliklere katılma konusunda yeterli gelire sahip olamama, yoksulluk sarmalından kurtulmanın yolunun özellikle kadın katılımcılar açısından evlilikle çözümleneceği düşüncesi öne çıkanlardan birkaçıdır.
The issue of poverty is one of the major problem areas that have been discussed for many years as the main subject of study of different sciences. It seems impossible to agree on a single definition of poverty, as it is based on the country’s level of development, the national income per person, the access of individuals to social and physical life opportunities, the volume and distribution of the labour market, and how political and economic decisions within the country affect the individual’s life satisfaction. Therefore, when defining poverty, it is necessary to evaluate in a wide range of social, cultural processes and the expectations of individuals, beyond being linked only to the economic and political processes. Themes such as housing in urban life, social security, equal opportunities in education, employment, the legal basis that the legal rights provide to the individual, participation in decision-making mechanisms in the social and political field are the main processes determining urban poverty. When we look into the fundamental dynamics of urbanization, individuals experience poverty in different ways. This study was aimed at revealing from what perspective young people aged 19 to 24 living in the city centre of Denizli experience poverty. In this context, the youth’s demographic characteristics, their geographical location, their educational and cultural accumulations, and their differences, as well as how they define poverty, and what the fundamental difficulties they experience, have been attempted to be achieved by their speeches. According to the findings of the research, young people in the field of poverty and the fundamental problems, the limitations of the opportunities for education and employment, the risks of the region in terms of social security, the failure to have sufficient income in participating in cultural events, the way to get rid of the poverty, especially in terms of women participants, are some of the ideas that the way to get rid of the poverty will be addressed by marriage.
