Abstract:

Distribution of income in the OECD countries
2019

Abstract:

The 2008 global crisis, which began in the U.S. real estate market and later turned Europe into a debt crisis, has re-incited the debate on income distribution. The reasons for the growing differences between the upper 1% income group and the lower 99% income group and how to solve the inequality are often at the heart of discussions. The aim of this study is to identify the factors affecting the income distribution in the OECD countries. Initially, the study was discussed in the OECD for the analysis of income distribution. The data in the OECD countries, such as the Gini ratio, the employment rate, the change in real labour income, the P80/P20 ratio, were then interpreted. After the interpretation of the data, an econometric analysis was implemented on the determiners of the income distribution in the OECD countries.  The analysis found that age dependency rate increased inequality of factors such as economic globalization and financing, the share of labor income in national income and the increase in civil rights enabled a fair distribution.

Determinants Of Income Distribution In Oecd Countries
2019

Abstract:

The global economic crisis of 2008, which had begun in the US real estate market and then spread to Europe as a debt crisis, has rekindled the discussion of income distribution. The reasons that lie behind the increasing gap between the top 1 percent of income earners and the bottom 99 percent, and the issues of how this inequality to be solved have usually been at the center of the discussion. The purpose of this study is to identify factors affecting income distribution in OECD countries. In the first place, the researches that have analyzed income distribution within the OECD are taken. Data such as Gini coefficient, labor force participation rate, change in real labor income, P80/P20 ratio in OECD countries are interpreted thereafter. Following this, an econometric analysis is applied to the determinants of income distribution in these countries. The study concludes that while factors such as age dependency ratio, economic globalization, and financialization grow inequality, increasing labour income shares and civil rights enable fair distribution.
