Pandemi, Ülke Yönetimi ve Ulusal Kimlik: Orhan Pamuk’un Veba Geceleri
2023

Abstract:

2023

Abstract:

From the first appearance in the Chinese city of Wuhan in November 2019 to the present day, the Covid-19 pandemic has turned the world into an event that reforms our way of moving, behaving, thinking and observing the world globally. Published by Orhan Pamuk in 2021 The Veba Nights His novel is one of the first novels to submit the subject of a similar epidemic and to re-interpret its cultural, political and social consequences. The Veba Nights Similar to some of Pamuk's previous works, it subjects the experience of nation building and the violence, nationalism, and complots accompanied by such political efforts. The other works of Pamuk The Black Book and My name is Red. This novel reminds us of the police novel type and changes the police novel type by applying an academic female narrator to the center of the story. The novel’s fictional special posts of the Minger Island characters to ethnic and religious references reflect the historical issue that the Ottoman Empire has to face: how can the Empire stand up against the entirely growing nationalist rebellion of different ethnic origins within the Empire? Cotton establishes a clear parallel with Rhodes and Grites as historical reference points and creates a imaginary island that is rapidly polarized and becomes a test area on a variety of subjects, such as the preservation of national identity in a medical dangerous period. This novel of Orhan Pamuk, like his previous novels, offers new perspectives on the issues of national consciousness and governance. In addition, Pamuk’s novel is a preliminary example of modern and postmodern novel in its narrative form.

Abstract:

Since its first inception in November, 2019 in Wuhan, China, the Covid-19 Pandemic has become a world-transforming event, one that has reshaped the way we act, behave, think, and observe the world on a global scale. Orhan Pamuk’s Veba Geceleri is one of the first novels that took up a similar issue of an epidemic and reconsiders its cultural, political, and social ramifications. Echoing Pamuk’s other works Black Book and My Name is Red, this novel takes up the genre of detective fiction and modifies the genre by applying a scholarly female narrator to the center of the story. The novel’s specific references to the ethnic and religious references of the characters of the imaginary Minger Island, resonates historical problem that the Ottoman Empire had to face: How to keep the Empire intact in the face of utterly increasing nationalist uprisings of different ethnicities within the empire.
