Abstract:

Sırrî Hanım is one of the distinguished women poets who lived in the 19th century. She was born in Diyarbakır; her full name is Sırrî Râhile. Sırrî (her pen-name) was raised in a cultured and intellectual family. She gained a special education in Diyarbakır and learned Arabic and Persian at good level. The only written work known to belong to Sırrî Hanım is her Dîwân. This dîwân is preserved at “Millet Kütüphanesi, Alî Emîrî, Manzum Eserler Bölümü, No: 202”. Limited number of academic studies have been published on Sırrî Râhile Hanım's Dîwân. Only one of the academic studies (Açıl, 2005) examined Sırrî Râhile Hanım and her Dîwân as a whole. Other studies dealt with Sırrî Hanım and her poems in terms of a certain subject. However, there is no linguistic study on the Dîwân. The aim of this article is to identify compound verbs used in ghazals of Sırrî Râhile Hanım. In the first chapter, Sırrî Râhile Hanım’s biography will be provided, briefly. As for the second chapter, compound verbs in ghazals will be examined. Firstly, all the compound verbs in ghazals will be exemplified. Then, the language source (Arabic, Persian or Turkish) of noun elements will be given in titles. Hereby, we will supply some datas on the usage of the compound verbs in ghazals by Sırrî Râhile Hanım.
