Kent algısı kent gerçekliğinin farklı toplum kesimleri üzerindeki göreli bir yansımasıdır. Bu algı kentin statüsü açısından önem taşımakta ve ayrıca yaşam kalitesinin biçimlenmesinde de etkili olmaktadır. Kentte yaşayan nitelikli bir kesim olan üniversite öğrencilerinin bu yöndeki algıları incelenmeye değer bir konudur. Bu çalışma söz konusu sebeplere dayanarak Tekirdağ Namık Kemal Üniversitesi öğrencilerinin kent algısını yaşam kalitesi bakımından ortaya koymayı amaçlamaktadır. Bu kapsamda kentin gelişimine ve kentsel yaşamda memnuniyetin yaygınlaşmasına dair göstergelerin de ortaya konulması hedeflenmektedir. Bu çalışmada nicel yöntem ve buna uygun olarak anket tekniği kullanılmıştır. Çalışmamızın kapsam ve içeriğini basit tesadüfi örneklem tekniğiyle seçtiğimiz, Üniversite’nin merkez kampüsündeki 476 öğrenciden oluşan örneklem üzerinden elde ettiğimiz anket verileri oluşturmaktadır. Ayrıca katılımcı gözlem ve sohbet tarzı görüşmelerle de çalışma desteklenmiştir. Çalışmanın bulgularına göre, kente dair algılarını incelediğimiz üniversite öğrencileri kenti doğal-coğrafi bir mekân olarak olumlu bulurken, fiziki alt ve üstyapı konusunda olumsuz ve çekinceli tutum takınmaktadırlar. Kentin kendilerine sunduğu hizmet ve imkânları da sınırlı ve yetersiz görmektedirler. Gerek üniversitedeki gerekse kentteki eğitim, kültür ve sanatla ilgili aktiviteler konusunda benzer bir tutum sergilemektedirler. Buna karşın öğrencilerin, kentin kendilerine sağladığını düşündükleri özgür ortamdan önemli ölçüde memnuniyet duydukları görülmektedir. Sonuç olarak, öğrenciler mezun olduktan sonra Tekirdağ’ı yaşayabilecekleri ve ileride mesleklerini yapabilecekleri bir kent olarak görme noktasında kararsız kalmaktadırlar.
The city perception is a relative reflection of the city reality over different sections of society. This perception is important in terms of the status of the city and also is effective in shaping the quality of life. A qualified section living in the city is a subject that is worth studying the perceptions of university students in this direction. This study is based on the reasons that Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University students are aimed at showing the city perception in terms of quality of life. In this context, it is also aimed at showing indicators of the development of the city and the spread of satisfaction in urban life. In this study, the quantum method and accordingly survey technique were used. The scope and content of our study forms the survey data we obtain through the sample of 476 students in the university's central campus, which we have chosen using a simple random sampling technique. Participants were also supported by observation and chat style conversations. According to the findings of the study, the university students we study their perceptions of the city find the city positive as a natural-geographical place, while they have a negative and fearful attitude towards the physical sub- and superstition. They see the city’s services and possibilities being limited and insufficient. They have a similar attitude to the activities related to education, culture and art in the city if necessary at the University. However, students seem to be very pleased with the free environment they think the city provides them. As a result, students remain uncertain to see Tekirdağ as a city where they can live after graduation and in the future they can do their professions.
The perception of the city is a relative reflection of urban reality on different social segments. This perception is important in terms of the status of the city and also influences the shaping of the quality of life. The perceptions of university students, who are qualified people living in the city, are worth examining. This study aims to reveal the city perception of Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University students in terms of quality of life based on these reasons. In this context, it is aimed to reveal the indicators regarding the development of the city and the spread of satisfaction in urban life. In this study, quantitative method and questionnaire technique were used accordingly. The content and scope of our study consist of survey data taken from a sample of 476 students in the central campus of the university that we selected by simple random sampling technique. In addition, the study was supported by participant observation and conversation style interviews. According to the findings of the study, while university students whose perceptions about the city are positive, they consider the city as a natural-geographical location and take a negative and hesitant attitude towards physical infrastructure and superstructure. They also consider the services and opportunities provided by the city limited and inadequate. They show a similar attitude towards educational, cultural and artistic activities both in the university and in the city. On the other hand, it is seen that the students are significantly satisfied with the free environment they think the city provides them. As a result, after the students graduate, they are undecided about seeing Tekirdağ as a city where they can live and do their profession in the future.
