Abstract:

Purpose: With this research, it is aimed to examine the behaviors of healthcare workers with the Health Belief Model regarding the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) during the Covid-19 pandemic period. Materials and Methods: A questionnaire was sent to healthcare professionals working in the public sector in Ankara, which was determined by easy sampling method, via internet and eventually 493 healthcare workers participated in the study. The health behaviors of employees under 5 dimensions were examined with the Health Belief Model Scale. Frequency analysis, factor analysis, T test and One Way Analysis of Variance methods were used in the analysis of the data. Results: It has been determined that the gender and profession of healthcare workers has a significant effect on PPE usage behavior. While women behave more positively than men, physicians perceive covid-19 as a lower level threat than other groups. In addition, it has been determined that married employees perceive covid-19 more seriously than singles. Conclusion: Significant differences were determined between the demographic characteristics of the employees and the sub-dimensions of the Health Belief Model Scale for protection from Covid-19, perceived sensitivity, seriousness, benefits and action-oriented clues (p <0.05). On the other hand, no significant differences were found between demographic characteristics and perceived barriers.
