Abstract:

It is assumed that the immigration is an age concept with the history of humanity. The Turkish society has witnessed many immigration events in both the Ottoman times and since the establishment of the Republic of Turkey. As a result of the political conflicts in the Syrian Arab Republic, which began in March of 2011, the Republic of Turkey has faced a large wave of immigration. This study focuses on the effects of the migration movements on Syrian migrants and the thoughts and attitudes of Turkey, especially the people of Gaziantep, towards migrants. In the framework of the first study, face-to-face surveys were carried out with Syrian migrants living in various neighborhoods of Gaziantep. These surveys examined the reasons for migrants arriving in Turkey, the reasons for preference of Turkey and the economic situation, as well as the views on the attitudes they encounter in Turkey and the return to their homeland. In the second study, the local people of Gaziantep were interviewed in depth, as a result of qualitative analysis, the local people were examined their views and attitudes on the issues of harmony with the economic and cultural dimensions of migration and return to Syria. It is believed that the findings of the study will contribute to a better understanding of the social, economic and cultural impacts of the migration movements from Syria to Turkey.
