Kur’ân, Allah Teâlâ’nın Hz. Cebrail vasıtasıyla Hz. Peygamber’e indirdiği ve Hz. Peygamber’in de bütün beşeriyete tebliğ ettiği son ilahi kitaptır. Bu ilahi kitap, doğal olarak gönderildiği toplumun dili olan Arapçayla vahiy edilmiştir. Kur’ân’ın, -indirildiği dönem de dâhil olmak üzere- Arapça konuşan herkes tarafından aynı şekilde ve aynı seviyede anlaşıldığı söylenemez. İnsan zaafından kaynaklanan birtakım kusurlar sebebiyle onu doğru anlamada bazı problemlerin ortaya çıktığı da inkâr edilemez. İşte bu problemlerden birisi de birçok müfessirin kabul edip üzerinde önemle durduğu Garîbu’l-Kur’ân diye ifade edilebilen Kur’ân lafızlarıdır. Bu lafızların bilinmesi, âlimler tarafından Kur’ân tefsiriyle ilgilenen herkes için elzem görülmüştür. Bu makalede ilkönce Garîbu’l-Kur’ân’ın tanımı, konusu, önemi, gayesi ve gelişimi ele alınmış, onun, Kur’ân’ı anlamada ne derece önemli bir yere sahip olduğu üzerinde durulmuştur. Sonra da Kurtubî’nin, Garîbu’l-Kur’ân’a nasıl bir yaklaşımda bulunduğu ve onu ne şekilde ele alıp kabul ettiği hususu ve onun bu konuda ileri sürmüş olduğu delilleri ortaya konmaya çalışılmıştır.
