Abstract:

Through the psychotherapy scenes in movies and TV series, it is possible to examine therapeutic processes and techniques, to analyze theories from different perspectives and to use them in psychological counseling training. In this research, the “In Treatment” series, which presents rich data in terms of therapy scenes, was examined. Qualitative research method was used in the study. Descriptive analysis was performed on the data obtained in the research . It is seen that he sometimes gains insight about himself, but mostly avoids gaining awareness, sometimes he has problems with the therapist and finally drop out. According the findings of the study, it was seen that the personalization skill and the relational immediacy condition were mostly used. Other skills and conditions are: invitation to talk, self-disclosure, the here and now in the relationship, binding, unconditional acceptance, confrontation, reflection, concretization, transparency, informing, empathy, summarizing, goal setting, informing, and silence. The client has generally had intense resistance to the therapist. The client, who talked about his relationship and problems with his wife, child, father, close friend, gained insight about himself, but mostly avoided gaining awareness. In the following process, the client experienced problems with the therapist and left the therapy. The series was analyzed by textual analysis method in terms of the therapeutic skills and therapeutic conditions used by the therapist.
