ÖĞRENCİLERİN GENEL BAŞARI VE MATEMATİK BAŞARISI DENEYİMLERİ: FENOMENOLOJİK BİR ARAŞTIRMA

Abstract:

Öğrencilerin başarı algıları ve başarıya yükledikleri anlamlar, yaşam doyumlarının bir göstergesi olarak düşünülebilir. Dolayısıyla bu çalışmada, farklı kademelerdeki öğrencilerin başarılarına yükledikleri anlamların neler olduğunun, öğrencilerin başarı deneyimlerinin nasıl gerçekleştiğinin ve matematik başarısının genel başarı içerisinde nasıl konumlandırıldığının incelenmesi amaçlanmaktadır. Fenomenoloji olarak desenlenen bu çalışmanın katılımcılarını, ortaokul, lise ve üniversite kademelerinden toplam 18 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmacılar tarafından oluşturulan yarı-yapılandırılmış görüşme formları kullanılarak elde edilen veriler, tematik içerik analiz tekniği kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Araştırmada elde edilen sonuçlara göre, öğrencilerin genellikle başarıyı konulan bir hedefe ulaşma olarak gördükleri öğrencilerin başarı algılarının ilkokul kademesinden itibaren not-ağırlıklı olmaktan uzaklaştığı, ancak bu değişimin asıl olarak lise kademesinden sonra belirginleştiği ortaya çıkmıştır. Ayrıca, öğrencilerin matematik dersindeki başarılarının genel başarıları üzerinde etkisi olduğu, matematik başarılarının arkadaşlarıyla olan sosyal ilişkilerinden ziyade, aileleri ve öğretmenleri ile olan ilişkilerini daha çok biçimlendirdiği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.

Students’ Success Experiences: A Phenomenological Research

Abstract:

The aim of this study is to explore what the meanings students at different levels are put on to their achievements, how students’ achievement experiences occur and how mathematical achievement is placed in the overall achievement. The participants of this study, designed as phenomenology, consist of a total of 18 students from high school, high school and university stages. The data obtained using semi-configured interview forms created by the researchers were analyzed using the thematic analysis method. According to the findings obtained in the study, students often see success as achieving a set goal; the perceptions of success of students are away from being not-heavy from the primary school stage, but this change is actually manifested after the high school stage. However, it is noted that there is a partial contradiction between whether students see themselves successful or not and the meanings they put on to success; it is apparent that students evaluate their own successes with points or notes. In addition, the conclusion was that a certain turning point in students’ achievements, that they thought math class achievements had an impact on their overall achievements, that math achievements formed their relationships with their families and teachers more than their relationships with their friends.

The aim of this study is to examine the meanings attributed to the success of students at different education levels, how the students' experiences of success are realized and how mathematics success is positioned within overall success. The study group of this phenomenological study consisted of 18 students from each of the secondary, high school and university levels. The data obtained through semi-structured interview forms were analyzed using thematic analysis. Findings showed that students' perceptions of success shifted away from being grade-weighted after the primary school level, but this change mainly became apparent after high school. In addition, it is concluded that students have a certain turning point in their success, they also think that their mathematics success influences their overall success and that mathematics success shapes their relations with their families and teachers.
