Yapılan çalışmada Orta Çağ felsefesinin neden çalışılması gerektiğini incelemektedir. Birinci bölüm, her türden "Antik felsefe" olarak adlandıracağım şeyi incelemenin gerekçelerini ele almaktadır. "Antik felsefe" şüphesiz Orta Çağ felsefesi altında sınıflandırılan metinleri de içerir ve dolayısıyla birinci bölüm söz konusu metinlerin neden çalışması gerektiğine dair bir gerekçe sağlamaktadır; ancak bu alanın vahye dayalı dinlerle olan sıkı bağlantısı olması gibi belirli ayırt edici özellikleri bulunmaktadır, ki bu durum onları incelemek için farklı ve özel bir gerekçelendirme sağlamak ya da ya da tersine Orta Çağ ile ilişkili malzemenin genel gerekçelendirmeden ayrı tutulması gerektiğini düşünmek için kullanılabilir. Söz konusu iki imkân ise ikinci bölümün konusudur.
The study explores why medieval philosophy should be studied. The first part deals with the reasons for studying what I would call "Ancient Philosophy" of all kinds. "Ancient Philosophy" without a doubt also includes the texts classified under the Middle Ages philosophy, and therefore the first part provides a reason why the texts in question should work; however, it has certain distinctive characteristics such as that it has a close connection with the revelation-based religions, which can be used to provide a different and special reasoning to study them, or, on the contrary, to consider that the material related to the Middle Ages should be separated from the general reasoning. The two possibilities are the subject of the second part.
