Abstract:

In the past forty years, while the human population has been rapidly increasing, small and large markets have merged to form a single market. Communication and information flow have accelerated with the influence of new media and the internet, surpassing artificial boundaries. Journalists have started producing and disseminating news from social media platforms. The interactive structure of new media and social media has made it easier to connect with different cultures. However, with the emergence of new media, ethical issues have also arisen. Changes such as the inclusion of user-generated content in news and the use of hashtags by journalists have created controversial areas that need to be considered from an ethical perspective. Indeed, new media and social media have brought along problems such as copyright infringement, fake content, and privacy violations. Ethical issues such as manipulation, the use of misleading headlines, and hate speech have also increased with the proliferation of social media. On the other hand, the emergence of new media has diversified communication methods, but progress has not been made in terms of cultural diversity. Adhering to ethical principles in social media and new media, coping with information pollution, and avoiding manipulation are crucial for modern societies. Taking all these problems into account, the aim of this study is to examine new media and social media ethics, identify existing ethical issues, and explore various ethical approaches in new media and social media.
