Abstract:

Reşat Nuri Güntekin (25 November 1889- 7 December 1956), one of the leading names of the Turkish authors of the Republican Period, takes an important position in the development of Turkish storytelling with the seven published story books. Apart from the author’s story books, there are many stories published in various newspapers and magazines but not included in the boks. The author has sometimes published his stories with the signatures of Reşat Nuri, such as “Ağustos Böceği, Ateş Böceği, Cemil Nimet, Çiğdem, Hayrettin Rüştü, R.N., Karakuş, Saksağan, Mehmet Ferit, Fakir, Sermet Ferit, Yıldız Böceği, (***,**,* symbols)”. The story titled ‘Bayramlık Çehre’ published in the name of Yıldız Böceği in the Kelebek magazine, which started its publication on April 12, 1923 and closed on September 25, 1924, was not included in the author’s story books and was not translated into Latin letters. In our study, Reşat Nuri Güntekin’s story ‘Bayramlık Çehre’ was translated into Latin letters and analyzed in terms of structure, theme and expression technique. The story called ‘Bayramlık Çehre,’ which conveys a cross section of the painter’s workshop, was written in the genre of 'event story'. The humor element, which has an important place in Reşat Nuri Güntekin’s stories, also took place in his story called ‘Bayramlık Çehre’. Güntekin has ironically handled the tendency to have portraits made, which is one of the reflections of the Western lifestyle in society, in his story ‘Bayramlık Çehre’. In the aforementioned his story, the author humorously reveals the conflicts in the relationship between men and women on the axis of the issue of having a portrait made.
