Abstract:

The interest of the British in the Basra Gulf as a trade and political influence area corresponds to the beginning of the 19th century. Although the East India company’s presence in the region is ancient, the active activities of the British in the Basra Bay can be considered as a result of the French occupations of Egypt. The activities of the British here were focused on extending their political influence to the front of Maskat and to the Basra province under the Ottoman State administration and achieving economic interests. At the beginning of the 20th century, the presence of oil in the region increased the importance of Shattülarap once more. At the time of the oil founding in this region, the company "Anglo-Persian Oil Company Limited" was founded and the oil was started to be exported, transferred and marketed. Oil production naturally brought the problem of transportation, increased the importance of the Chattularap and became an indispensable area for the British interests.
