Birinci Dünya Savaşı’nın İtilaf Devletleri tarafından kazanılmasının ardından, yıllardır Osmanlı toprakları üzerindeki emellerini gerçekleştirmek isteyen İtilaf güçleri için bir fırsat doğmuş oldu. Osmanlı Devleti’nin zayıflığı ve topraklarını koruyacak güçte olmaması Birinci Dünya Savaşı devam ederken, İtilaf Devletleri arasında gizli antlaşmaların yapılmasına neden olmuştur. Bu antlaşmalara göre Osmanlı Devleti iyice savunmasız görülerek, topraklarının paylaşılması hedeflenmiştir. Birinci Dünya Savaşı’nın sonunda yenilen devletlerle yapılan ateşkes ve barış antlaşmaları ile amaçlarını daha fazla gerçekleştirmek istemişlerdir. Özellikle Osmanlı Devleti ile imzalanan Mondros Ateşkes Antlaşması’nda yer alan ağır hükümler amaçlarını açıkça gözler önüne sermiştir. Osmanlı Devleti ile imzalanan ateşkes antlaşmasıyla Osmanlı Devleti parçalanmak istenmiş, her bir madde ile Osmanlı Devleti güçsüz bırakılmıştır. Mondros Ateşkes Antlaşması, bu çalışmada maddeleriyle birlikte ele alınmış, tarihsel önemine değinilmiştir.
