Bağımsızlık mücadelesinin varış noktası olarak Cumhuriyet, Türk halkı için 1923 tarihinde bir umut olarak doğmuştur. Cumhuriyet’in ilanı ile yeşeren bu umut tüm yurtta büyük bir coşku ve heyecanla karşılanmıştır. Kurtuluş Savaşı kahramanı, Türkiye Cumhuriyeti’nin kurucusu Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’ ün en büyük eserim dediği Cumhuriyet kendisinden sonra aynı heyecan ve coşkuyla bugün hala yaşatılmaktadır. Cumhuriyet’ in ilan edildiği dönemde yurdun içinde bulunduğu zorlu koşullar Anadolu halkının fedakârlığı ve özverisi ile aşılmış, kentlerin yeniden inşası süreci ve savaştan çıkmış olmanın getirdiği sıkıntılar ise yönetimsel kararlılık, milli ekonomi politikaları ile çözüm bulmuştur. Kurtuluş Savaşı’nın gazi kentlerinden biri olan İzmir işgalden bağımsızlığa kavuştuğu günlerde büyük bir yangın ile sınanmış ve yangının sebep olduğu zarar kentin büyük çaplı bir imar sürecini ortaya çıkarmıştır. Ancak bu durum kent halkına Cumhuriyet coşkusundan hiçbir şey kaybettirmemiştir. Kentin dört bir yanında karşılaşılan Cumhuriyet temsili anıtlar bunun en güzel ispatıdır. Bu çalışmada İzmir’in Cumhuriyet ile birlikte yeniden inşa edilme süreci ve şehrin işlek bölgelerinde yer alan anıtların Cumhuriyet temsili konu edilmiş, şehrin yeniden imarı sürecinde değişen mimari üslup ve anıtlara ilişkin değerlendirmeler fotoğraflarla sunulmuştur.
As the destination of the struggle for independence, the Republic was born as a hope for the Turkish people in 1923. This hope, which blossomed with the proclamation of the Republic, was welcomed with great enthusiasm and excitement all over the country. The Republic, which Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the hero of the War of Independence and the founder of the Republic of Turkey, called his greatest work, is still alive today with the same excitement and enthusiasm after him. In the period when the Republic was proclaimed, the difficult conditions in the country were overcome with the sacrifice and self-sacrifice of the Anatolian people, and the reconstruction process of the cities and the problems brought about by the war were solved with administrative determination and national economic policies. Izmir, one of the veteran cities of the War of Independence, was tested by a great fire in the days of independence from occupation, and the damage caused by the fire revealed a large-scale reconstruction process of the city. However, this situation did not make the people of the city lose their enthusiasm for the Republic. The monuments representing the Republic encountered all over the city are the best proof of this. In this study, the reconstruction process of Izmir with the Republic and the representation of the Republic in the monuments located in the busy areas of the city are discussed, and evaluations on the changing architectural style and monuments during the reconstruction process of the city are presented with photographs.
