Abstract:

The 28th February process is a turning point in the political life of Turkey. The February 28 intervention is different in terms of the method from the previous coupes. Therefore, the general transition of the acceptance of the intervention is often used by the phrase “postmodern blow”. Before and after the meeting of the MGK on 28 February 1997, the military wing sought to establish control over civil authorities; the media, bureaucracy, judicial bodies, universities and opposition parties sought to legitimize the process. After the 1970s, the National Opinion Parties (National Nizam Party, National Salam Party, Reef Party, Fazilet Party), which took their place in politics, were closed by the Constitutional Court for the purpose of becoming the "centry of anti-laicity actions" by some politicians who disappeared from the National Opinion identity, established the Justice and Development Party. The Ak Party, which is considered a product of the 28th February process, has demonstrated a harsh struggle against the practices of the 28th February process, starting from the early times of its power, and has achieved significant success despite great obstacles.
