Abstract:

Fairy tales are texts fictionalised and carried by the social memory and come from oral narrative culture. Since, in terms of history, originated and developed in indefinable period of time, fairy tales come by layers of different meaning and interpretation. While some of these layers are close to the surface and easy to follow, the others are deeper down, sometimes behind the crystalized symbols and sometimes are in the shape of rather obscure traces. Text analysis as well as archaeological excavation is responsible for the study of the traces of possible meaning and enterpretation from the surface down deep. Thus, it becomes possible to detect the building blocks of the social memory. Turkish literature, possessing oral heritage the boundaries of which aren’t known, provides researches with enormous opportunities. In this context, the text “Pomegranate Seeds” was studied. The plot was determined. By interpreting the conflict and the confrontations, three different layers of meaning were determined. İnterpretation opportunities mentioned above were contextualized and integrated.
