Abstract:

The aim of this research is to determine high school students’ perceptions about the use of smartphones and the levels of addiction. The sample of the study consists of a total of 404 students studying at 20 official high schools located in Ankara in the 2018-2019 educational year. The research data was collected using the smart phone addiction scale. The smart phone addiction scale is developed by Kwon, Kim, Cho and Yang (2013) and adapted to Turkish by Akın, Altundağ, Turan and Akın (2014). The study found that students’ smartphone addiction was close to a medium level. It is also concluded that students’ perceptions of the level of smartphone addiction show a significant difference according to the school type variable; that they do not show a significant difference according to the gender and class level variable. In this study, according to the perception of students, the use of smartphones and the level of addiction were studied. Research can be carried out that studies the intervariable relationships such as smartphone use and addiction and social media, socialization, communication skills.
