Günümüzde teknoloji ve iletişim araçlarının gelişmesiyle sermaye hareketleri ve menkul kıymetlerle ilgili işlemler kolay, etkili ve daha yoğun şekilde gerçekleşmektedir. Finansal piyasaların küreselleşmesi, ülkeler açısından menkul kıymet borsalarının önemini arttırmıştır. Bu çalışmada, ülkemiz için de büyük önem taşıyan menkul kıymet borsasının gelişim sürecini göz önüne serebilmek amacıyla, Osmanlı devleti dönemindeki menkul kıymet işlemleri araştırılmaktadır. Osmanlı döneminde menkul kıymetlerle ilgili alım ve satım işlemlerinin kesin olarak ne zaman başladığıyla ilgili net bir şey söylemek mümkün değildir. Fakat Galata ve çevresindeki tüccar, sarraf ve bankerler tarafından bu tür ve benzeri işlemlerin yapıldığı bilinmektedir. Dünya’daki gelişimine bakıldığı zaman, Avrupa’da borsa faaliyetleri Osmanlı’ya göre daha erken başlamıştır. Fakat Avrupa’daki borsaların da gelişimi 19. yüzyılda gerçekleşmiştir. Bunun en büyük sebeplerinden bir tanesi ise sanayileşme ve şirketleşmedir. Ayrıca, bu dönemde deniz aşırı ticaretin ve yatırımlarında arttığı görülmektedir. Buna paralel olarak, tezgâh üstü de olsa Osmanlıdaki borsa faaliyetleri de yine 19. yüzyılda artmaya başlamıştır.
Today, with the development of technology and communication tools, capital movements and transactions related to securities are made easier, more efficient and more intense. The globalization of financial markets has increased the importance of securities for countries. In this study, in order to take into account the development process of the stock exchange that is of great importance for our country, the stock exchange transactions in the Ottoman state period are investigated. In the Ottoman era, it is not possible to say anything clear about when the purchase and sale processes in relation to the currency were exactly started. But it is known that such and similar transactions are carried out by traders, scrapers and banks in Galata and around them. When looking at its development in the world, the stock exchange activities in Europe began earlier than the Ottoman. But the development of the stock exchanges in Europe also occurred in the 19th century. One of the biggest reasons for this is the industrialization and corporationization. In addition, it is seen that during this period the sea has increased in excess trade and investments. Parallelly, even over the thesis, the stock exchange activities in Ottoman began to rise again in the 19th century.

In this study, securities transactions in the Ottoman period are being investigated in order to consider the development process of the securities market, which is also important for our country. There were no clear findings about when the purchase and sale of securities were started During the Ottoman period. However, it is known that such and similar operations have been done by merchants, sarrafs and the bankers in and around Galata. When we look at the development in the world, stock market activities in Europe started earlier than in the Ottoman Empire. However, the development of the stock markets in Europe took place in the 19th century. Industrialization and corporatization are the biggest reasons of this situation. In addition, it is observed that overseas trade and investments increased during this period. at the same time, the stock market activities in the Ottoman Empire have started to increase again in the 19th century.
